CHAPTER 28

A Glowing Bangle

“Ana?,” said the surprised husband.

“Daddy...,” said Zaracus.

“Ana!” Moricz called his wife for the second time. “I thought you were already on your way to your sister’s wedding.”

“I.., I...,” Annaleigh hesitated. Tears streamed down her face. “I am just too worried about Zaracus.”

“Zaracus?” Moricz repeated, and he looked puzzled.

“Great you must have got the name wrong, Dan, and he will surely find out why this strange wife of his, who was supposed to be on her way to a wedding, called their daughter by a name that is not familiar to him,” said Rafi who was getting annoyed by the minute.

Annaleigh continued to sob.

“Mom can call me anything she wants. She doesn’t have to call me anything, and besides, she feels positive, and that is why she called me by my name.”

“But ‘muffin’ has been our favorite since you were born,” Moricz protested.

“Oh really, ‘muffin’ from such a brute like Moricz?” Ariel said.

Annaleigh kept quiet.

Moricz, who was studying her carefully, frowned and said, “So you are getting more hopeful like what our muffin said?” Then looking at her fingers, he said, “Hey, you took out the diamond ring, our tenth anniversary —? ”

“What is with you? Our Muffin is sick and you are worried about me wearing a diamond ring?” Annaleigh feigned anger and glowered at Moricz, buying time to think of the right response to his second question.

“So where is the ring now?”

“I kept it as I don’t want my sister to be jealous of the big diamond that I got from my husband.”

“Mom, dad!” Zaracus called out, her voice weak, and frowned.

“Over improvised there.. getting deeper and deeper...” said Rafi.

“You are not Annaleigh, are you?,” said Moricz finally.

“Have you gone mad?” Annaleigh raised her voice.

“Well, I never gave you any diamond ring and my true wife, Annaleigh would have known that I’ve never gave her any diamond ring.”

“You, idiot, I don’t want our daughter to think that you are such a cheapskate and I pretended to play along with you,” retorted Annaleigh.

Moricz looked sheepish and swallowed a lump in his throat after being admonished harshly by Annaleigh. He went and stood closer to look at Zaracus and Annaleigh.

“So, why you did not tell me about someone knowing how to cure our daughter?” Annleigh said, taking a calculated gamble that Moricz did not tell the actual Annaleigh about it.

“I did..., but,”

“No, but.... Tell me who?” Annaleigh was quick to say.

“Well, it is not convenient to discuss it.”

Annaleigh, the impostor, rosed up and patted on Moricz’s shoulder, guiding him to a corner in the room. While looking into his eyes, she asked, “Why is that someone holding up in curing her?”

Moricz sighed and reluctantly offered an answer,” he said that our daughter is afflicted with a very difficult to cure disease.”

“But I thought you said that he can help?”

“He said that he could help, only when he regains his full power.”

“What power? Who is he?,” asked the impostor.

“Magical power. It is Adadniral, my boss.”

“So, pray how he will be able to gain his full power.
